Oak is a versatile type of wood that can be treated in several ways. And we like to do that in a traditional way. Think of smoking, aging or, for example, brushing. Treatments for wooden floors: collections and customization

In addition to our own collections, we also make custom made floors entirely according to the customer's wishes. From extensive treatments to simpler colours, such as a smoked white or natural oiled floor. Our professionals can do it all!

Did you buy a wooden floor elsewhere? We treat them too!

Have you bought a wooden floor elsewhere and do you want us to finish it? That is also possible. Please contact our internal sales department for this. They are happy to explain the options. Below you can read which different treatments are possible. And of course you can also combine multiple treatments.

To smoke

Oak wood has the property that it discolors when it is smoked. The wood becomes darker and the combination with (colour) oil and/or lacquer creates particularly beautiful colours. The discoloration caused by smoking is caused by the tannic acid in the wood reacting with the ammonia. Not all oak wood contains the same amount of tannic acid, which means that the wood will discolour more or less. Color differences can therefore arise and these are part of the character of a smoked floor. Also keep in mind that sapwood does not discolor during the smoking process and a white drawing remains visible. Smoked floors always lighten over time. As a rule, you can say that a smoked floor colors back 30 to 40%.

Aging

When aging, the wood goes into a large drum, which contains special stones. During the rotation of the drum, the planks are not only aged by the stones on the surface, but the sides also suffer minor damage. When the planks are connected, this creates a somewhat worn connection between the planks, making it seem as if the floor has aged over time. This gives a particularly authentic image.

Brushing

Oak wood is characterized by unique and natural wood structures. Especially the rustic grades have a beautiful grain structure and color shades.

By brushing the parquet, the structure and pores of this wood are brushed 'open'. This makes the wood grain more visible and tangible. This brushing gives an optimal effect when the parquet is then oiled in colour. Because of the brushing, the color remains in the open brushed wood structure in a unique way.

planing

The planing of the wood ensures that the structure is more open. And especially around the knots and cross thread, a somewhat rougher picture is created. The surface here is therefore less smooth than with a sanded board. The result of the open structure is that oil can penetrate deeper into the wood, creating a different color image. When using one and the same oil on a sanded or abraded surface, the color can be significantly different. This also depends on the chosen oil.

To sand

The most commonly used finish for wooden floors is sanding. Usually with 120 grit as the last machine sanding. Floors that are sanded and finished on the job are often polished with a finer grain. This differs per floor type and chosen finish.

Milling bevel

When choosing a wooden floor, choosing whether or not to have a bevel is always an important point for the consumer. We can make a bevel afterwards on floors without a bevelled edge. Usually only on the long side of the plank, but if desired, this is also possible on the short side. Deviating bevels, such as a U-groove, are usually also possible on request.

pickling

The Flamingo Patina Pure The collection is based on a stain finish. With stain we are able to make completely different colors than would be possible with only an oil finish.

After pickling, one or more finishing layers are applied. At the Patina Pure this is done with oil, but variants with lacquer are also possible. By using stain, we are able to reproduce colors much better and to copy requested colors for the customer.

Painting

Lacquer wooden floors? This can be done with an oxidative treatment or a UV treatment. At Flamingo Parquet we have chosen to work with oxidatively dried lacquers. In our opinion, the look & feel much more natural. And in the case of, for example, an ultra matt lacquer finish, it is hardly distinguishable from an oil finish. Between the mutual layers of lacquer, the planks are sanded or polished. After all, with lacquer you bring a lot of moisture to the shelf, making the surface rough - also called 'hairy'. With sanding or polishing, a smooth surface is created.

Oils

Oiling is the most commonly used finish for wooden floors, because the wood with an oil finish retains its natural appearance. The oil penetrates deep into the wood without closing the pores. This allows the wood to breathe and retains its natural structure. The oils used by Flamingo Parket for its standard collections include the brands Floorservice (Overmat) and Rigo (Royl). These are solvent-free and have a composition based on vegetable oils and waxes. Do you want to finish the floor with a different oil? That is also almost always possible. Please contact our internal sales department for this.

Packaging

It is of course very important that all our floors reach your showroom or home address undamaged. And that is why we always ship our floors professionally packed. Untreated planks are almost always packed as standard in a sturdy cardboard box or sometimes bundled with a sturdy plastic foil around it. Our processed floors are always bundled and wrapped with plastic foil. Whichever product you choose, we always pay great attention to the right packaging.

Transport

Flamingo Parket uses qualified transporters who have all certifications. As a regular carrier, we have been working with Van Reenen, a transport company based in Barneveld, for many years. They have years of experience in transporting wooden floors and are able to deliver your orders quickly and undamaged like no other.
